Loss Support is a benefit for bereaved families, offering personalized, step-by-step guidance through the emotional and practical challenges of losing a loved one. Loss Support is available to beneficiaries of all Equitable individual life insurance policies.
What exactly does Loss Support help with?
Combining technology and human support, Empathy Loss Support helps families navigate all the aspects of loss. This can include planning a funeral, writing an obituary, closing down a loved one’s accounts, settling their financial affairs, and more. With dedicated care managers by their side, families are fully supported as they handle each task, decision, and challenge. They’ll have access to key information and advice to help them move forward with confidence.
Is Empathy part of the KIND benefit package also included in Equitable policies?
No, Empathy is a separate app and web-based loss support benefit. The KINDTM program provides various financial supports to beneficiaries, including the Compassionate Advance, Snap Advance, and Bereavement Counselling benefit. To learn more about the KIND benefits package, click here.
Is there a cost for using Empathy Loss Support?
No. Empathy is included at no extra cost with all Equitable individual life insurance policies.
How do beneficiaries access the Loss Support benefit?
Once a life insurance claim is initiated, Equitable’s Claims team will help them to register and connect to available Loss Support services online or through the mobile app.
How does Empathy Loss Support care for families in grief?
Grief is complex and different for everyone. Empathy Loss Support provides support and guidance through the many aspects of grief. We have an array of resources and services that can help families find balance and re-engage with life. Families can move at their own pace, knowing someone is there to listen and help.
Does Empathy Loss Support include human support or only digital?
Yes. Loss Support includes access to human support. A dedicated care manager from Empathy’s care team will guide the beneficiary to the support that they need. The care team at Empathy provides thoughtful and empathetic grief support, tailored to the unique needs of each individual during their time of loss.
What resources are offered through the Empathy Loss Support mobile app?
The Loss Support mobile app2 gives users a personalized, step-by-step care plan to guide them through both the practical and emotional challenges that follow a loss. In the app, users can work through tasks with detailed guidance. They can track their progress, set reminders, assign tasks to others, and share updates with family and friends. They can also access grief-support resources like:
• expert-guided audio content and meditation
• a private space for reflection and journaling
• a place to upload and securely store important documents, and
• a way to connect with a care manager for 1:1 support.3
Does a beneficiary have to use the Loss Support benefit?
No, Loss Support is completely optional. It is available if beneficiaries choose to use it.
