New rules in effect for all Quebec applications
The Quebec Regulatory Tribunal (AMF) made an important decision about selling insurance products to Quebec residents. As a result, Equitable® has changed its licensing rules for all future sales to clients in Quebec.
Effective on November 28, 2024, you must be licensed in Quebec to submit an application for a client who lives in Quebec. This requirement applies to all insurance and investment products.
Regardless of where the application is signed, if you meet with a client whose primary residence is in Quebec, you must be licensed in Quebec to submit on the client’s behalf.
If you are not licensed in Quebec, you will need to get licensed in Quebec for applications for Quebec clients to be processed.
What about licensing for clients outside of Quebec?
In all cases, we encourage you to be licensed in the province where a client lives to be able to do business or provide ongoing service.
Equitable is committed to providing solutions and service that is in the best interests of clients and advisors alike. We appreciate your continued support.

Important Information Regarding FHSA Contributions
Many clients have already taken advantage of Equitable’s First Home Savings Account (FHSA), available on Pivotal Select™ Investment Class (75/75) and Pivotal Select Estate Class (75/100).
Below, we answer questions we have received regarding cut-off dates for 2023 FHSA contribution tax receipts.
1. The client submitted an application with a deposit before 11:59 p.m. ET on December 29, 2023. Will they get a 2023 FHSA contribution tax receipt?
Yes, the client will receive a 2023 FHSA contribution tax receipt.
2. The client submitted an application with a deposit on December 30 or 31, 2023. Will they get a 2023 FHSA contribution tax receipt?
No, the client will not receive a 2023 FHSA contribution receipt. The client’s deposit will be made effective the next business day, January 2, 2024. The client will receive a FHSA contribution tax receipt for the 2024 tax year.
However, since the client signed the application on or before December 31, 2023, they are eligible to take advantage of the 2023 contribution room in 2024 (up to $16,000 total*).
3. The client submitted an application with a deposit after January 1, 2024, but it was signed on or before December 31, 2023. Will they be eligible for the 2023 contribution room?
Yes. Any FHSA application received on or before 4:00 p.m. ET on January 12, 2024 that was signed on or before December 31, 2023 will be eligible to take advantage of the 2023 contribution room in 2024*.
4. The client received a confirmation letter stating their deposit was effective in January, but the application and contribution was submitted on or before December 29, 2023, will they receive a 2023 tax receipt for their contribution?
Yes, if the client received a confirmation letter stating their deposit was effective in January but the application and deposit was received at Equitable® on or before December 29, 2023, they will receive a 2023 tax receipt for their contribution. We are currently updating any impacted FHSA policies to reflect a December trade date. The client will receive a revised confirmation letter reflecting the December trade date.
5. When will 2023 FHSA contribution tax receipts be issued?
FHSA contribution receipts for the 2023 tax year will be mailed to clients by February 29, 2024.
If you have further questions, please contact your Regional Investment Sales Manager or one of our Client Services Representatives at 1.866.884.7427.
*Clients must consider all eligible FHSAs with any other institutions to determine their remaining contribution room.

What’s your saving style?
A TFSA for its flexibility or an RRSP for tax-deferred growth.
Did you know? More than 65% of people who put money into a TFSA* earn less than $80,000 a year. That’s why TFSAs are popular with middle-income Canadians. They’re simple and flexible: you don’t get a tax break when you put money in, but you don’t pay tax when you take money out. This makes them great for people who don’t get big benefits from tax deductions.
On the other hand, 54% of RRSP contributors earn more than $80,000 per year*. RRSPs often work better for higher-income earners because contributions lower taxable income. That means bigger tax savings for people in higher tax brackets.
Here’s the good news: From January 1 to March 2, 2026, when clients open or add money to an Equitable TFSA or RRSP, they’ll be entered into Equitable’s Snowball Your Savings contest. Two winners will be chosen—and their advisors will celebrate too!
How to Enter
Advisors can help clients submit contributions through EZcomplete® or process transactions using EZtransact®. Every entry is a chance to win!

It just takes a few minutes. Plan members can also call us at 1.800.265.4556 if they need help, a replacement cheque or assistance arranging a different mailing address.
Mental health support
Unpredictable, large-scale natural disasters can cause people to experience intense reactions, putting a lot of pressure on their mental health. Having coping mechanisms to deal with the current crisis can be a huge help. Any Equitable Life plan member who needs mental health support can visit Homeweb.ca/equitable to access online resources or contact Homewood at 1.888.707.2115.
For plan sponsors who have purchased Homewood Health’s Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP), their plan members also have access to confidential counselling services. The EFAP provides plan members with 24/7 access to confidential counselling through a national network of mental health professionals. Whether it’s face-to-face, by phone, email, chat or video, plan members will receive the most appropriate, most timely support for the issue they’re dealing with.
