  4. NEW Jump Around feature available on EZcomplete One of the most requested features is available on EZcomplete® effective November 19, 2022. We like to call it “jump around”. It’s the ability to jump from one part of the application to another and back again. You no longer have to complete the application one section after another in order. This will allow a lot more flexibility when submitting a policy application.

This functionality is helpful as you can input basic client information ahead of a meeting to review with the client later. After completing the Owner’s step (step 1), you could jump to step five (Subsequent Payment) or step six (Third Party). This allows you the opportunity to easily jump back and add a second owner once you have all their details from the client. You can also return to your dashboard, and when you go back into the application, you will be returned to the owner’s section.

Hitting the Save button will save the information you have inputted already, so after jumping ahead to a different section, you can return to complete those questions knowing your progress will be saved.  When you have completed all the necessary fields, hitting the Done button will validate all the information and the step will be complete. A check mark will appear beside each completed and validated step.
Please note, if you go back to a previously validated step and change information you will have to go through all subsequent steps and complete and validate them again by clicking next if nothing has changed or making any necessary changes.

  5. Revised Witness Signature Process during COVID-19 forĀ Individual Life and Critical Illness Insurance Revised Witness Signature Process during COVID-19 for Individual Life and Critical Insurance Business

We are temporarily revising our policy around witness signatures during COVID-19. While the preference is to have a witness when one is available, we understand that may be difficult given our current environment.

Please follow the options below for witness signature with the first option being most preferable, and the last option being the least preferable:

    1. Signature from a witness who is a disinterested party
    2. Signature from a witness who is a party with an interest
    3. No witness

If we receive a form that doesn’t have a witness signature, we will still process the form. Just a reminder this is only temporary during COVID-19.

  7. Insights from a pandemic: Long-term COVID-19 drug risks

For the remainder of 2020 and beyond, COVID-19 will continue to add to the existing pressures driving up drug costs. Examples of contributing factors include:

    • Claims for acute drugs will likely increase as elective surgeries resume and plan members address non-emergency health issues that were left unattended during COVID-19.
    • Plan members whose employers are facing financial strain due to COVID-19 may stock up on their prescriptions in anticipation of losing their job and/or their benefits.
    • An ongoing increase in the prevalence and severity of mental health issues and chronic conditions. In May and June, we saw a dramatic increase in the number of claimants for depression, ulcers, blood pressure and diabetes, and depression was associated with 1 in 5 claimants.

All trends thus far suggest we can expect about a 10% increase in average paid amounts per certificate in 2020 compared with 2019. But the impact won’t be the same for all groups. There will be significant variations, particularly for smaller groups, and some may see much larger cost increases.

    Unknown COVID-19-related risks

Another risk exposure may come from the costs associated with drugs used to treat or prevent COVID-19. There are currently numerous vaccines in development, and more than 300 clinical trials are underway for both new and existing drugs to determine their effectiveness in treating the virus.

The cost of any vaccine or whether government or private plans will pay for it is unknown. Regardless, there will likely be other drugs indicated for the treatment or prevention of COVID-19 that private plans will be expected to cover. The cost of this impact for private payers is unknown, but potentially high.

Another unknown is what will happen with dispensing fees. While most provinces have lifted their 30-day prescription refill limits, it remains to be seen whether pharmacies will resume dispensing 60- and 90-day refills at pre-COVID levels for private plans. If not, this would mean the dispensing fees will continue to drive up drug costs.

    Advisor opportunity

Despite the increase in drug plan risk in recent years, little has changed in plan design trends. Very few plan sponsors have adopted managed plans or other plan design options that could help manage risk.

This presents an opportunity for advisors to educate their clients about the risks their drug plan may be exposed to and the options available to manage that risk.

A practical starting point for those conversations is our Drug Plan Design Tool. With two simple questions, it can help confirm your client’s objectives and identify some best-fit solutions for their plan.  Ask your Group Account Executive or myFlex Sales Manager for a copy of the tool.

  8. Enhancements to ID Verification and Business Forms

We have made enhancements to some of our forms and created an additional form to help make it easier for you to do business with Equitable Life®.

The first enhancement is an update to the ID Verification section to allow for Third Party ID Verification when a client doesn’t want to provide ID documents to an Advisor. They are now given additional options to either use the Alternative Identification requirements, or consent to Equitable Life verifying their identity through a third party service provider. We’ve also clarified in the Advisor declaration that they can’t sign for their own policies as they aren’t able to validate their own ID.

The above changes have been made to the following forms:

The second enhancement is an update to Business forms. We’ve created a new form, 2004 Signing Authorities Certificate, to help Businesses provide the Signing Authority information needed more easily!  Forms 594 and 682ENT have been updated to point to the new Form 2004 and also have new “Ownership structure” requirements added in section 2.
