Update to DSC Reimbursement for WFG advisors
Equitable Life now accepts WFG’s Commission Rebate Disclosure form instead of Equitable’s Deferred Sales Charge Reimbursement (DSC) Request Form (Form #1605). Allowing the use of WFG’s form will help streamline the process for WFG in submitting DSC reimbursements.
Previously, any DSC reimbursement received from Equitable Life required WFG advisors to submit form #1605 and provide proof of the DSC charge from the relinquishing institution, along with a cheque for the reimbursement. The WFG disclosure form and cheque from WFG is now all that is required for the initial submission. Proof of the DSC charge from the relinquishing institution is not required in all instances, but may be requested by Equitable Life and must be available if requested.
If you have any questions, contact your Regional Investment Sales Manager or Equitable Life’s Advisor Services Team Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. ET at 1.866.884.7427 or email savingsretirement@equitable.ca. -
EZcomplete enhancements for segregated fund applications
When we launched EZcomplete® for segregated funds back in January we heard a lot of positive comments from our advisors. We also heard that we could do better. So that's just what we did.
1. FUNDSERV CODE
Advisors with an active FundSERV code no longer need to remember to select the FundSERV code when starting a new segregated fund application. EZcomplete will now default to the FundSERV code.
2. LOAN DEPOSIT OPTION
Under the Contributions section of the segregated fund application for Non-registered, TFSA, RSP or Spousal RSP, Loan is now a deposit option under Deposit Types. If Loan is selected, EZcomplete will ask for amount and Lending Company name. Equitable Life® has partnered with B2B Bank to provide investment and RSP loans at competitive rates. Details can be found on EquiNet® under "Loans".
3. LIMITING SUCCESSOR ANNUITANT
Applicable to TFSA, RIF and Spousal RIF applications only, EZcomplete will now use validation to prevent advisors from accidentally naming the same person as both successor annuitant and beneficiary, reducing the instances of "not in good order" applications.
4. ONGOING PAD FUND SELECTION
If Ongoing PAD is selected as a Deposit Type, an advisor can allocate the Ongoing PAD to a fund allocation that is different than the rest of the deposit options.
5. TRANSFER FORM NOTIFICATION
The MGA and advisor confirmation emails now include text to confirm that a Transfer Form has been uploaded and submitted as part of the segregated fund application. This additional information will act as a reminder to the Advisor/MGA to send the Transfer Form to the relinquishing institution.6. POPULATING FIELDS
Advisors will no longer need to keep entering the same advisor and MGA information on new segregated fund applications. The first time an advisor code is used on an EZcomplete segregated fund application, the advisor will populate all the required fields. Each subsequent time a new segregated fund application is created with the same advisor code, the following fields will pre-populate with the values that were last entered.a) Advisor Email
b) Dealer/MGA Name
c) Branch Number
d) MGA Email -

Equitable Now Accepts eSignatures on all documents (Ind. Ins. & S&R)
View the Guide to completing eSignatures
What are the benefits?
● It’s secure because you no longer need to upload or email documents to us.
● It also removes a step in the process for you - we will get the eSigned documents directly once all signatures are completed and therefore you no longer need to notify us once the documents are signed.
● Your documents will be processed quickly and efficiently.
How does this work?
● Including esign@equitable.ca as a non-signing reviewer is the preferred method as it ensures the security embedded documents are accurately and immediately available for Equitable. We will be automatically notified when signing is complete and will download eSigned forms immediately for processing.
● If not using esign@equitable.ca we require the original signed form and audit trail with all the security features intact.
● The email addresses used to sign must match what is in our file (as provided on the application, for electronic policy delivery or through previous communication). If an email address has changed, or we don’t have an email contact for the signer, we will follow up for confirmation.
● We will accept all eSigning Vendors that have the functionality to place the eSignature in the correct signature fields on all applicable documents. If the eSigning vendor does not have the functionality to do this, we cannot accept it.

Regulator Reviews of Advisor Business Practices
The Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) began targeted life agent examinations in 2021 as part of its Market Conduct: Life and Health Insurance Agent Supervision Framework. In March 2022, FSRA released its industry report which included a summary of the top regulatory violations or business practice gaps identified during those reviews, which included:
● Agent Disclosure – failure to ensure proper disclosure to clients regarding the insurers that the agent is authorized to represent, conflicts of interest or potential conflicts of interest and agent compensation;
● Continuing Education Credits – failure to complete CE credits as required or misrepresentation to the regulator regarding completion;
● Failure to complete the Life Insurance Replacement Declaration with clients when replacing an existing insurance policy;
● Missing or inadequate financial needs analysis and/or risk assessment (wealth) and insurance needs analysis;
● Missing or inadequate Reasons Why Letters for insurance recommendations;
● Missing evidence of policy illustrations;
● Missing or inadequate AML/ATF programs; and
● An overall lack of adequate notes to document client conversations and support recommendations made.
While these reviews are focused on agents licensed in Ontario, the review findings are helpful for all licensed advisors to ensure your business practices are aligned with regulatory and industry standards. Following these standards also helps you meet Equitable Life’s Advisor Code of Conduct. FSRA’s full report includes a copy of the Insurance Agent Market Conduct Questionnaire and can be viewed at https://www.fsrao.ca/newsroom/new-life-and-health-agent-supervisory-framework-enhances-consumer-protection.
