  1. November is Financial Literacy Month

Equitable® wants to mark Financial Literacy this November. Created by the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC), the campaign this year is “Money on your Mind. Talk about it!”

The FCAC is challenging Canadians to do one thing to boost their financial confidence. One of those things includes asking questions to a trusted financial advisor. That’s, you! Be ready this year to answer anything from retirement savings, home ownership, annuities, estate planning, Daily and Guaranteed Interest Accounts, segregated funds and more.

  2. Understanding Life Insurance Replacements at Equitable All provinces require completion of a life insurance replacement declaration (LIRD) or equivalent form if intending to replace an existing insurance contract with a new one. The LIRD helps clients think carefully before terminating their existing policy. It contains important questions for them to consider.

When do you need to send a LIRD to Equitable®?

Refer to our: LIRD requirements by province

Equitable needs to receive the LIRD only in provinces where it is mandated. Please check the province-specific requirements (linked above).

If a client is replacing a life insurance contract with a new one with us, and the owner lives in one of the specified provinces, the LIRD must be sent to Equitable with the application. It should include a written explanation of the questions reviewed with the client and must be signed and dated.

Important reminder: While you will always complete a LIRD, do not submit the LIRD unless we require it. Doing so may delay the new business process.

Note: The LIRD does not terminate the original policy; it indicates intent to do so.

Questions? Please contact your local Equitable wholesaler if you need additional information.

  3. Important Changes to your Equitable EquiNet Login
We know that in today’s world, you have a lot of logins and passwords to go with them.

Equitable® is taking steps to increase the security of your EquiNet® login while simultaneously removing the need for you to remember a password.

    This technology is called passkeys.

A passkey will enable you to access all the great features EquiNet has to offer by using biometrics.

You probably already have passkeys set up if you have an Amazon, Apple, Google, Uber or WhatsApp account.

How passkeys will work on EquiNet:

This authentication method is available now and will be optional to start. However, we strongly encourage you to use it. It is the next generation of security and makes for one less password for you to remember.

All you need to do is log in to EquiNet as you normally would and follow the step-by-step prompts to enable a passkey. It’s that easy.

  8. How to talk to clients about CI when they don’t want to
    Does this sound familiar?

You’re having a chat with your client about Critical Illness insurance. They suddenly interject: “Critical illness insurance isn’t for me.”

    “Why is that?” you ask.

    “Because….
    -  Critical Illness insurance is expensive!
    -  I don’t understand what it covers exactly.
    -  I have money to cover me if I get sick, so I don’t need this.
    -  I’m healthy enough.
    -  It’s not life insurance, so I don’t need it right now.
    -  I already have disability coverage through my work.”

If you’ve heard any of these responses, and didn’t know how to respond, we can help.

Our Path to Success program covers all these objections and more with simple-to-follow PDFs and videos. You’ll learn conversation strategies and tips on how to navigate the sale. Most importantly, you’ll know exactly what to say the next time a client objects to Critical Illness insurance.
