Positioning for the Future
Over the past few years, we’ve made great progress on our five-year strategic plan. Our Individual Insurance new business sales grew 24% over the previous year, compared to an 8% market growth. We’ve introduced refreshed products, services and technology. Looking ahead, we want to keep our momentum and ensure we also look beyond the next five years. To be successful in this, we’re making some changes to our current structure.
We’re pleased to announce that Martin Reeves has been promoted to Executive Vice-President, Individual Insurance. Martin has served in key positions during his time at Equitable including Vice President, Actuarial and Finance and most recently as Head of Individual Insurance Business. Martin is a talented leader. His 20 years of industry experience spans the globe having served in leadership positions in Canada, Hong Kong and Malaysia. His passion for delivering leading insurance solutions to Canadians has been instrumental to Equitable’s recent success. Martin will join Equitable’s executive team and will report to Fabien Jeudy, Chief Executive Officer.
Martin steps into this role as Donna Carbell accepts a new position as Executive Vice-President, Chief Strategy and Impact Officer. Donna will remain on the executive team and continue to lead Equitable’s brand and impact efforts. Donna will add Equitable’s corporate strategy to her accountability, overseeing the company’s strategic initiatives. These initiatives support our aspirations of becoming fully driven by client outcomes in a way that is simple, safe and rewarding for our clients, partners and employees. We would like to thank Donna for her incredible leadership of the Individual Life business these past several years. -
Take the emotions out of investing
Investing without letting our emotions take the wheel can be quite a challenge. We've all made decisions based on our feelings rather than logic or financial sense at some point. But following our emotions when investing is a good way to put our investment plan at risk.
When it comes to financial planning, it's crucial to guide clients towards being rational investors who understand that market fluctuations are part of the journey. Even the most steadfast rational investors have found it tough to stay calm amidst recent market volatility. But history reassures us that this too shall pass, and the markets will rise again. The burning question is always, "When?"
While no one can predict the future, an advisors’ role is to help clients grasp that risk management is a cornerstone of any solid investment strategy. Risk is just one of the building blocks in crafting a financial portfolio that can weather both good times and bad.
That’s why Equitable® has created an emotional investing brochure to help clients manage through extraordinary times. Download your copy of Take emotions out of investing. We have also included a template letter that you can personalize and use to reach out to clients. To download an editable copy, click here.

Let’s “Talk Money”: November is financial literacy month
This November, we’re joining the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada’s national campaign to help Canadians feel more confident about money. This year’s theme is “Talk Money”, and it’s all about normalizing money conversations.
Talking about money— including topics like saving, budgeting, or dealing with debt—can feel hard. But when we speak up, we help reduce stress and build stronger financial habits. As advisors, you can lead the way by starting these conversations with clients.
How you can help- Start the conversation: Ask clients about their goals and worries.
- Share tools: Use Equitable® Individual Wealth calculators and learning modules to help guide conversations.
- Support wellness: Money stress affects mental health. Be a calm, helpful voice.
What’s next?
Watch for more Financial Literacy Month updates throughout November. We’ll be sharing tips, tools, and conversation starters to help you connect with clients and support their financial journey.
Let’s help Canadians take small steps toward better financial futures — one conversation at a time. - Individual insurance video library

Message from Ron Beettam
As COVID-19 continues to spread, we want to reassure you that we remain ready and committed to support you and your clients.
We have a robust and well-tested business continuity plan in place and our business is almost 100% digital. Almost 90% of our employees are now working remotely from home and are maintaining the high level of service you have come to expect from us. We still have a fully functioning Document Services Centre that is managing our incoming and outgoing mail. Our sales and customer service teams remain open to support you and your clients.
Equitable Life’s online application process, EZcomplete®, offers non face-to-face capability and continues to be your go-to resource for managing your business virtually. We are receiving a record number of online applications and are committed to helping you maintain a certain degree of daily activity. EZcomplete® non-face-to-face works for all life, critical illness and segregated fund applications.
Advisors will be pleased to know that we have increased non-medical limits for life insurance. We are also looking at other underwriting changes, digital delivery of life insurance contracts and additional digital payment options.
Our Savings & Retirement advisors will find our new Transaction Authorization Requirements table a valuable resource for submitting forms and documents. Can’t meet with your client in person to get a signature? Not to worry. You can have your client sign a letter of direction and take a picture to authorize a number of transactions.
Transacting in a non face-to-face environment can be a challenge but we will continue to revisit existing processes and look for ways to modify requirements to help you to continue managing your business. All of us are facing an unprecedented number of urgent situations where there is no established protocol. Our commitment to you and your clients is to respond quickly, and to be flexible where we can, tailoring solutions to specific needs.
To stay up-to-date, please refer to Equitable Life’s COVID-19 information page. There you will find the latest information for all lines of business.
As the global situation continues to evolve rapidly, we ask for your patience as our solutions also evolve quickly and accordingly. Rest assured that Equitable Life is unwavering in our support, and we will be here to help you protect what matters most to Canadians.
