Telemedicine now included in Travel Assist*
Medical emergencies can be particularly stressful while travelling. Making your way to a medical facility can be a struggle. And once you get there, you could face long wait times, language barriers or even the risk of COVID-19 infection.
That’s why Allianz Global Assistance®, our Travel Assist provider, is adding two new virtual care options to provide plan members with timely and appropriate medical support.
As always, when a travel medical emergency strikes, plan members call Allianz for assistance. During the intake process plan members will be guided through a series of questions to triage their unique medical situation. Options for care now include two different virtual care services:
- TeleConsultation – Video and chat consultation with a locally licensed physician. This physician can diagnose simple medical conditions and provide a prescription. Available across Canada and in some high travel states in the United States.
- TeleAdvice – Video and chat consultation for situations which are not likely to require a prescription. The physician can diagnose simple medical conditions and provide medical guidance.
Plan members who use virtual care may benefit from:
- Reduced wait times;
- Care from the comfort of their current location;
- Reduced language barriers;
- No need to arrange transportation to a medical facility;
- Reduced impact on travel itinerary; and
- Reduced risk of exposure.
Both TeleConsultation and TeleAdvice will be available for all Equitable Life plan members beginning January 1st, 2021. There is no additional cost, no changes required to your client’s plans, and no change to the way plan members contact Allianz in the event of a travel medical emergency.
This PDF plan member update will also be included in the eNews to plan administrators.
If you have any questions about these new features, please contact your Equitable Life Group Account Executive or myFlex Sales Manager.
Allianz Global Assistance is a registered business name of AZGA Service Canada Inc. and AZGA Insurance Agency Canada Ltd.

The MIE will increase from $54,200 to $56,300.
Maximum Weekly Insurable Earnings (MWIE)
The MWIE will increase from $1,042 to $1,083.

Information for Plan sponsors

- The additional premium for any increase from their previous STD amounts and new STD amounts will be show on their January 2021 Group Insurance Billing (as applicable).
If their STD maximum is currently higher than $595 or based on a flat amount (not based on a percentage or regular earnings):

Message from Ron Beettam
As COVID-19 continues to spread, we want to reassure you that we remain ready and committed to support you and your clients.
We have a robust and well-tested business continuity plan in place and our business is almost 100% digital. Almost 90% of our employees are now working remotely from home and are maintaining the high level of service you have come to expect from us. We still have a fully functioning Document Services Centre that is managing our incoming and outgoing mail. Our sales and customer service teams remain open to support you and your clients.
Equitable Life’s online application process, EZcomplete®, offers non face-to-face capability and continues to be your go-to resource for managing your business virtually. We are receiving a record number of online applications and are committed to helping you maintain a certain degree of daily activity. EZcomplete® non-face-to-face works for all life, critical illness and segregated fund applications.
Advisors will be pleased to know that we have increased non-medical limits for life insurance. We are also looking at other underwriting changes, digital delivery of life insurance contracts and additional digital payment options.
Our Savings & Retirement advisors will find our new Transaction Authorization Requirements table a valuable resource for submitting forms and documents. Can’t meet with your client in person to get a signature? Not to worry. You can have your client sign a letter of direction and take a picture to authorize a number of transactions.
Transacting in a non face-to-face environment can be a challenge but we will continue to revisit existing processes and look for ways to modify requirements to help you to continue managing your business. All of us are facing an unprecedented number of urgent situations where there is no established protocol. Our commitment to you and your clients is to respond quickly, and to be flexible where we can, tailoring solutions to specific needs.
To stay up-to-date, please refer to Equitable Life’s COVID-19 information page. There you will find the latest information for all lines of business.
As the global situation continues to evolve rapidly, we ask for your patience as our solutions also evolve quickly and accordingly. Rest assured that Equitable Life is unwavering in our support, and we will be here to help you protect what matters most to Canadians.

Help your clients during this time of isolation and self-distancing by letting them know about banking online. Deposits will be made according to the instructions on file. Advisors will receive the regular commissions for any deposits made. Please note that all deposits must originate from the policy owner's bank account.

EZcomplete for non face to face
We know that business still needs to happen, even in times of uncertainty. EZcomplete® can help with that. Earth Day: A simple way to talk about sustainable investing
Earth Day is a great time to talk with clients about investing with purpose. This year’s theme—Our Power, Our Planet—highlights the impact of individual and collective choices, including how we invest.
Many Canadians are interested in sustainable investing, which looks at environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors alongside long term returns. Clients want to understand how the power of their money can support positive change—without sacrificing performance. Sustainable investing can look at things like reducing carbon impact, supporting fair workplaces, and encouraging strong company leadership.
Watch out for greenwashing
Not all investments labeled “sustainable” are the same. Some products may use the term without real environmental efforts or strategies. This is known as greenwashing.
That’s where advisors can add value. By understanding how funds are built and what they hold, you can help clients make informed choices they feel confident about.
How Equitable can help
Equitable® offers sustainable investing fund options that include ESG considerations as part of a disciplined investment approach. Take this opportunity to review available options and fund details.
You can also support sustainability through how you work with clients. Equitable’s paperless tools help reduce paper consumption and improve efficiency:
• Equitable Client Access® for online account viewing
• EZtransact® for fast, digital transactions
• EZcomplete® for easy, paper free applications
Take action
Earth Day is a great time to:
• Start simple conversations about sustainable investing
• Share Equitable’s sustainable fund options with clients
• Promote paperless tools that are better for clients and the environment
Small steps—done consistently—can make a meaningful difference for clients and the planet. If you have questions, speak with your Director, Investment Sales.
