There is still time for your clients to contribute to their Tax-Free Savings Account
If you have clients that have not contributed to their Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA) this year, great news… there is still time!
You know that an Equitable Life® TFSA is a great way to save. Each year residents of Canada who are at least 18 years of age are eligible to invest up to $6,000* into their TFSA, in addition to any previously unused contribution room. Deposits made into a TFSA are made with after-tax dollars. This means that withdrawals can be made at any time on a tax-free basis.
Interested in increasing an existing Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD) TFSA deposit?
Clients with an existing PAD (or who had one in the previous six months), can go online to make any adjustments to a scheduled deposit to their TFSA. Clients can simply login to Equitable Life’s Client Access®. Client Access is Equitable’s secure online client site that connects clients to tools and policy information.
Consider a one-time deposit or set up a PAD?
To get started with one-time deposit, clients simply log in to their online bank account and select the option to add a new bill/payee and search for Equitable Life Savings Plan. The Equitable Life savings plan policy number will serve as the account number.
Clients that complete their deposits using online banking do not have to worry about mailing a cheque or missing the deadline. Deposits are applied based on the investment direction on file.
If you have clients that would like to set up a PAD, simply complete Form #378. For details on how to submit forms during COVID-19, refer to the NEW APPLICATIONS & TRANSACTION AUTHORIZATION REQUIREMENTS webpage.
If you have any questions, please reach out to your local Regional Investment Sales Manager or Advisor Services at 1.866.884.7427 Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. ET or email savingsretirement@equitable.ca.
*The annual TFSA limit is set by Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and is currently $6,000. Your notice of assessment will tell you if you have unused contribution room from previous years. Contributions over the maximum will be charged a monthly penalty of 1% by CRA.

A year of celebration - 100 years of protecting what matters most to Canadians
We’re proud to be celebrating 100 years of experience in the insurance industry. Over the last 100 years, through significant historic and financial challenges – two World Wars, the Great Depression, economic crises in the 80s and 90s, regulatory challenges and significant growth and expansion in the face of stiff industry competition – Equitable Life of Canada® has become one of Canada’s largest and most financially stable mutual companies.
2020 marks our 100th anniversary and we want to thank everyone who has been a part of this journey. A special 100th anniversary website, www.equitable100.ca, highlights the company’s historic milestones and shares information about the anniversary-related activities. Special celebrations will be taking place including:
- The Equitable Gives Back Contest that will award five charitable organizations in Canada a grant of $10,000 each based on their winning entries;
- The $100 a day giveaway where randomly selected clients will receive $100. In addition, there will be three grand prizes awarded to randomly selected clients at the end of the year; and
- The 100th Anniversary Legacy Donation, that will be announced in May, to an organization in Waterloo Region that helps strengthen our community.

Update - Travel Assist Coverage*
Last Friday, we announced that plan members with Travel Assist on their benefits plan will not be eligible for coverage if they departed the country after the Government of Canada issued its Global Travel Advisory.
When the Government issued its advisory late Friday afternoon, we felt an obligation to let prospective travellers know as soon as possible so they could make informed choices about their travel. Since then, we have been made aware of a number of situations where plan members were unable to change their travel plans and need our continued support.
To provide that support, we have revised our position. We will continue to cover plan members for all eligible emergency medical expenses, including those related to COVID-19, for trips outside Canada. Given the global situation is evolving quickly, we will continue to monitor developments and update you accordingly.
In spite of this, we strongly urge your clients to advise their employees not to travel outside of the country at this time. The risk is high and the options for returning to Canada are becoming limited. Further, we urge your clients to advise their employees who are outside the country to return to Canada earlier than scheduled, if possible.
If a plan member is currently travelling abroad and is experiencing symptoms or is hospitalized with suspicion of the coronavirus, they should contact Travel Assist at the numbers listed below for assistance and to confirm their coverage.
- Toll-free Canada/USA: 1.800.321.9998
- Global call collect: 519.742.3287
- Allianz Global Assistance ID #9089
We will continue to update you as the situation develops.
We will update the announcement on our Plan Member website to reflect this change.
We apologize for any confusion or inconvenience our earlier announcement may have caused.

New segregated fund sales charge option from Equitable Life of Canada
On December 7, 2020 Equitable Life® will add a new No Load CB5 (NL-CB5) sales option with a 60-month chargeback schedule to the Pivotal Select™ segregated funds lineup. This new sales charge option complements the recently launched No Load CB (NL-CB) option which has a 36-month chargeback schedule.
This new sales option for Pivotal Select gives you and your clients five sales charge options to choose from: Low Load (LL), No Load (NL), No Load CB (NL-CB), No Load CB5 (NL-CB5) and Deferred Sales Charge (DSC). The addition of NL-CB5 provides an option for those advisors who want to increase the upfront portion of their commission. The benefit to clients is no Deferred Sales Charge to contend with. If your client chooses to withdraw funds within 5 years after purchase, there is a chargeback of commission to you.
By offering five sales charge options, the choice between three distinct guarantee classes (Investment Class (75/75), Estate Class (75/100) and Protection Class (100/100)), and a diverse selection of investment funds, the Pivotal Select contract provides the flexibility to build an investment solution that meets the needs of your clients.
Need to meet with your client online? Our EZcomplete® application makes it easy to process your non-face-to-face applications and do business with Equitable Life. EZcomplete gives you the option to conduct your non face-to-face business easily and quickly, enabling your clients to provide their signature remotely on their own device.
For more information about Equitable’s NL-CB5 or any of Equitable’s products, contact your local Regional Investment Sales Manager or our Advisor Services team at 1.866.881.7427 Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. ET or email savingsretirement@equitable.ca.

The top five benefits of choosing the 10-pay premium option
As part of our December 2024 Equimax® update, we launched a new guaranteed 10-pay premium option for Equimax Wealth Accumulator®. This option is a great way for clients to fund their life insurance policy.
The top 5 benefits of the 10-pay premium option:
1. Short Payment Period: After just 10 years, the policy will be completely paid-up, and clients won’t have to make any more payments while still having coverage.
2. Growing Cash Value: By completing payments in a shorter time, clients can see their cash value grow faster. They can later access this value through policy loans or cash withdrawals if needed.
3. Level Premiums: The premiums for the 10-pay option stay level over time. This makes it easier for clients to budget.
4. Estate Planning: A fully paid-up life insurance policy can be a great planning tool for clients who want to leave a legacy for their loved ones.
5. Tax Benefits: The cash value in a whole life policy grows tax-deferred, and the death benefit is paid out tax-free to beneficiaries.

Let’s “Talk Money”: Helping clients feel better about their finances
This November is Financial Literacy Month, and the theme is simple but powerful: “Talk Money.” The goal is simple—get Canadians talking about money. When people open up about budgeting, debt, or financial stress, they feel more confident and less alone.
Money and mental health are connected
Many Canadians feel stressed about money. That stress can affect their mental health. As an advisor, you can help by starting honest conversations. When clients talk about their worries, they’re more likely to take action and feel better.
How advisors can help
You don’t need to be a therapist. Just listen, ask questions, and offer simple steps. Here are a few ideas:
- Ask how clients feel about their finances.
- Share stories of others who overcame money stress.
- Celebrate small wins, like setting a budget or saving a little more.
- Use Equitable’s online learning modules to equip yourself with knowledge to help support client goals.
- Watch our on-demand webcast: How to stay grounded in a changing world: Supporting financial and mental well-being
Let’s talk money
Talking about money helps people feel stronger and more in control. This month, let’s help clients open up, take action, and build better habits—financially and emotionally.

International Women’s Day
Reflecting on inclusion in our industry
International Women’s Day is a great opportunity to pause and think about how we support the women clients we serve. In wealth management, inclusion is not just a theme for one day a year — it plays a critical role in building stronger relationships and long‑term business growth.
Our recent Master Class – From Insight to Inclusion: Engaging Women Investors with Confidence –reinforced this. The 60-minute session, featuring Susan Silma, Client Experience Transformation Leader and industry speaker and columnist, looked at why many women still feel under‑served in our industry and what advisors can do to create a more engaging and supportive experience.
Here are a few key takeaways from the conversation:• Inclusion strengthens your practice. When women feel heard and understood, trust grows —and so does loyalty.• Start with better conversations. Susan shared ways to turn research and insights into everyday discussions that feel relevant and meaningful to women.• Consistency builds confidence. A clear, repeatable process for prospecting, onboarding and reviewing plans with women clients helps ensure they feel included from day one.
Did you know: 82% of advisors who attended the live Master Class identified the need to add more women clients to their business.
As we celebrate International Women’s Day, it is a good reminder that creating a space where women feel comfortable, informed and valued benefits everyone — and positions your practice for long‑term success.
If you missed the session — or would like to revisit the ideas — the Master Class recording is now available on demand. On behalf of everyone at Equitable, Happy International Women’s Day, Canada!
