  1. Policy contract changes for residents of Quebec Starting June 1, 2023, there will be new language rules for any “contracts of adhesion”, including insurance policy contracts, in Quebec. These changes are part of Bill 96, which is about respecting French as the official and common language of Quebec.

At Equitable Life, we have made some changes to our contract processes to support this new requirement.
Starting after May 23, 2023, clients who live in Quebec will always get a copy of their insurance policy contract in French, regardless of language preference.
    - We will only send the English copy to the policy owner if they specifically ask for it. In that case, we would also send a French copy.
    - For clients who request a copy of their policy contract in French, there is no change. We pride ourselves in respecting the needs of our clients.

If you want to learn more about these language changes, visit Assemblee nationale du Quebec - Bill 96. You may also contact your wholesaler.

  7. EXCITING NEWS! Digital Transactions for Universal Life Plans Now Available We are happy to announce a major update to our digital systems that makes managing Equitable Universal Life (UL) policies easier than ever. Starting now, you can use digital transactions to submit your clients’ instructions to change their UL deposit allocations and transfer funds between accounts.

This update builds on the recent launch of our digital policy loan request on EquiNet® and is another step towards making your Equitable® experience easier and more convenient.

    What's New?
In the past, you had to submit written requests for UL deposit allocation changes and account value transfers using the Universal Life Form 693UL (you can still use this method if you prefer).

Now, you can manage these transactions directly through the secure EquiNet advisor portal. This new process also allows clients to securely approve their requested changes by email.

To get started, simply log into your account on EquiNet and go to the Policy Inquiry tab.
We have provided a brief user guide to help you through the steps.

We trust that this digital upgrade will enhance the way you work with Equitable. Stay tuned for more digital enhancements in the near future!

Thank you for your continued support and partnership.

  9. Help clients navigate the tax landscape across investment types with Equitable With tax time in full swing, you’re invited to a helpful webcast that will explain how different investment types are taxed. This will give you simple language you can use to build clearer conversations with clients.

This session will help you explain the key differences between:

    • Registered plans (which shelter or defer tax):
         • RRSP: Contributions offset taxable income. Taxes are deferred until withdrawals are made.
         • RRIF/LIF: All withdrawals are taxable.
         • FHSA: Contributions, withdrawals, and transfers appear on T4FHSA/Relevé 32.
         • TFSA:  Helps your investments grow tax-free.

    • Non‑registered plans (which are taxed yearly):
         • Income is taxed each year (not deferred).
         • Reporting usually comes through T3 or T5 slips.
