Updated Temporary Resident Guidelines
We are excited to announce that we have liberalized our Temporary Resident Guidelines.
● The validity period requirement of the supporting documentation for all Temporary Residents has been lowered to three months
● Student Visa holders attending post secondary educational institutions may qualify for a total coverage of $500,000, and – if employed – even for $1,000,000
We will now ask for the following information:
● Information regarding the educational institution and programme for all amounts over $250,000 (typically includes online validation)
● A maximum of $500,000 may be available for students enrolled in professional programmes, as defined in our Student Financial Guidelines (e.g., medical, law, etc.)
● A maximum of $1,000,000 may be available for students who are legally and gainfully employed. For this, we require proof of current employment and the CRA Notice of Assessment for the previous year. Should both be satisfactory, the allowable face amount will be calculated according to the published Work Permit guidelines. If applying for over $500,000, a minimum one-year period after arrival to Canada is required.
● Students enrolled in elementary or secondary school are eligible for a total coverage of $250,000. Exceptions may apply if the parents are insured or applying for minimum $1,000,000. We will confirm the parents’ respective occupations, incomes, and residency statuses

SMS is Available for Individual Insurance Application Updates
If you haven’t opted in to receive your client's application status via text message, give it a try on your next application.
When you submit a client’s application, you can opt-in to receive text message updates for your new business applications. No need to log in to your advisor portal to know exactly what is going on with a case.

- Equitable Life has made a decision,
- The policy is ready for delivery, and
- The commissions have been triggered.
In addition to these messages, Equitable Life will continue to send proactive emails detailing outstanding requirements.

Our partner, Cloud DX, has signed a 3-year contract with an Ontario hospital to help put patients with congestive heart failure at ease.
Cloud DX’s digital health platform works to improve healthcare delivery, provide better care outcomes, and lessen the burden on our national healthcare system. Now, an Ontario heart centre will use the Cloud DX platform to improve its patient monitoring services.
Cloud DX is a value-added service for Equitable Life’s Critical Illness claimants. Cloud DX delivers clinical grade hardware directly to the client so that they can remotely monitor the client’s vitals to help ensure they stay on the road to recovery*.

Flexibility for a client’s ever-changing life
Term life insurance offers full and partial conversion options to meet changing needs
Life is always changing—whether a client is buying their first home, welcoming a new baby, or sending the kids off to college. While most clients think of term life insurance as a solution to meet a temporary need, they don’t necessarily consider the power of term conversion options to meet their future needs.
Full and partial conversion options can help meet a client’s needs as their life journey and insurance needs change, without having to provide proof of continued good health.
Full conversion:
• With full conversion, clients can convert all of their term coverage from their policy or rider to permanent life insurance. This allows the client to lock in a level premium rate for life.
Partial conversion:
• With a partial conversion, clients can convert a portion of their term coverage from their policy or rider to a permanent plan. This allows them to help cover off both a short-term need and also provides lifetime protection.

Our partial conversion with a term rider carryover is now more flexible than ever. Read more about it here!

Savings & Retirement Policy and Procedure updates regarding Electronic Signatures
We have updated our policies and procedures regarding electronic signatures in the Savings and Retirement department. We are now able to accept electronically signed documents, from all major third-party signing vendors.
Including esign@equitable.ca as a non-signing reviewer is the preferred method as it ensures the security embedded documents are accurately and immediately available for Equitable. We will be automatically notified when signing is complete and will download eSigned forms immediately for processing. Including esign@equitable.ca as a non-signing reviewer is secure, quick, and efficient. Documents no longer need to be emailed to us – eSigned documents are sent directly to us once all signatures are completed, therefore you do not need to notify us once the documents are signed.
When esign@equitable.ca is not used to submit electronically signed documents, the following criteria are required:- The original signed form and audit trail with all the security features intact
- The email address used to sign must match what is in our files (as provided on the application, for electronic policy delivery or through previous communication). If an email address has changed, or we don’t have an email contact for the signer, we will follow up for confirmation.
A guide on how to use esign@equitable.ca can be found here.
Please note that Equitable does not accept digital signatures (images or fonts of a signature which are not stamped).

New “Update Payment” feature for banking changes has launched!
Great news! Equitable® has launched a new self-serve "Update Payment" feature in Client Access and on EquiNet®. This new online process enables clients and advisors to easily submit key banking change requests for eligible insurance policies*, with no need to complete a physical form.
What’s new?
A new "Update Payment" feature is now available on Client Access and on EquiNet under Policy Inquiry. It allows clients (and advisors) to easily submit requests for the following three transactions online:
1. STOP pre-authorized payments.
2. RESUME pre-authorized payments on overdue accounts.
3. CHANGE which bank we withdraw money from.
The new "Update Payment" feature replaces the previous "Edit" button in Client Access. The old banking change options are still available in the client’s Profile section. They can be used to request a change to the payment withdrawal date, as that option is not yet available with the new Update Payment feature.
How it works!
When a change is requested using the new Update Payment feature, our Operations team receives it online. They will review and process the changes within three business days, as per Equitable’s current service standards.
The Update Payment feature in Client Access is a self-serve process. However, if a client prefers, their advisor or an Equitable Customer Service associate can assist them by submitting the request on their behalf. Clients will be asked to sign to approve any such requests that are submitted by someone other than the owner of the policy.
*The Update Payment transactions are only available for eligible policies: those that have not lapsed, are not on Automatic Premium Loan, and are not owned by a corporation or other entity.
We trust that these digital enhancements will help make the client and advisor experience even simpler and more efficient.

International Women’s Day
Reflecting on inclusion in our industry
International Women’s Day is a great opportunity to pause and think about how we support the women clients we serve. In wealth management, inclusion is not just a theme for one day a year — it plays a critical role in building stronger relationships and long‑term business growth.
Our recent Master Class – From Insight to Inclusion: Engaging Women Investors with Confidence –reinforced this. The 60-minute session, featuring Susan Silma, Client Experience Transformation Leader and industry speaker and columnist, looked at why many women still feel under‑served in our industry and what advisors can do to create a more engaging and supportive experience.
Here are a few key takeaways from the conversation:• Inclusion strengthens your practice. When women feel heard and understood, trust grows —and so does loyalty.• Start with better conversations. Susan shared ways to turn research and insights into everyday discussions that feel relevant and meaningful to women.• Consistency builds confidence. A clear, repeatable process for prospecting, onboarding and reviewing plans with women clients helps ensure they feel included from day one.
Did you know: 82% of advisors who attended the live Master Class identified the need to add more women clients to their business.
As we celebrate International Women’s Day, it is a good reminder that creating a space where women feel comfortable, informed and valued benefits everyone — and positions your practice for long‑term success.
If you missed the session — or would like to revisit the ideas — the Master Class recording is now available on demand. On behalf of everyone at Equitable, Happy International Women’s Day, Canada!
