  2. NEW Process for Applications for Term Conversion to Equimax with Excelerator Deposit Option (EDO) Great news! We are now allowing term conversions to Equimax with EDO with no additional underwriting provided the maximum net amount at risk (NAAR) for the new Equimax policy does not exceed the Term coverage amount being converted.

We have created an easy-to-use Excel worksheet (1616 worksheet) to help you confirm that the conversion to Equimax with EDO satisfies the NAAR requirement and will assist you with properly completing the Application for Term Conversion (Form 1616). This worksheet is only for use in situations where the term coverage is to be converted to Equimax with EDO and must be submitted along with the signed illustration and completed Application for Term Conversion. The maximum NAAR can be found on the Underwriting page of the illustration report.

The signed Equimax illustration, application and term conversion worksheet should be sent to: inforcelifemail@equitable.ca.

  5. Update to DSC Reimbursement for WFG advisors

Equitable Life now accepts WFG’s Commission Rebate Disclosure form instead of Equitable’s Deferred Sales Charge Reimbursement (DSC) Request Form (Form #1605). Allowing the use of WFG’s form will help streamline the process for WFG in submitting DSC reimbursements.

Previously, any DSC reimbursement received from Equitable Life required WFG advisors to submit form #1605 and provide proof of the DSC charge from the relinquishing institution, along with a cheque for the reimbursement. The WFG disclosure form and cheque from WFG is now all that is required for the initial submission. Proof of the DSC charge from the relinquishing institution is not required in all instances, but may be requested by Equitable Life and must be available if requested.

If you have any questions, contact your Regional Investment Sales Manager or Equitable Life’s Advisor Services Team Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. ET at 1.866.884.7427 or email savingsretirement@equitable.ca.

  9. Policy contract changes for residents of Quebec Starting June 1, 2023, there will be new language rules for any “contracts of adhesion”, including insurance policy contracts, in Quebec. These changes are part of Bill 96, which is about respecting French as the official and common language of Quebec.

At Equitable Life, we have made some changes to our contract processes to support this new requirement.
Starting after May 23, 2023, clients who live in Quebec will always get a copy of their insurance policy contract in French, regardless of language preference.
    - We will only send the English copy to the policy owner if they specifically ask for it. In that case, we would also send a French copy.
    - For clients who request a copy of their policy contract in French, there is no change. We pride ourselves in respecting the needs of our clients.

If you want to learn more about these language changes, visit Assemblee nationale du Quebec - Bill 96. You may also contact your wholesaler.
