  1. How first-time homebuyers are sourcing their down payments Did you know that the primary sources for down payments among first-time homebuyers* are:
    • Savings outside of a RRSP (59%)
    • Gifts (38%)
    • Savings within a RRSP (31%)

While 71% of potential first-time homebuyers in Canada are aware of the First Home Savings Account (FHSA), only 33% of them are taking advantage*.

Equitable wants to help first-time homebuyers take advantage of all the benefits a FHSA has to offer. Clients who contribute to an Equitable FHSA between May 1 and September 30, 2025 will be entered into our Close to Home contest, for a chance to win one of two $8,000 prizes. Whether opening a new Equitable FHSA or making an annual contribution, this is a fantastic opportunity to help clients get closer to owning a home.

Advisors, your efforts matter too! You have a chance to win a $1,000 prize if the client you are assisting, in alignment with their unique homeownership needs, is selected as a winner. At Equitable, we believe that when we grow together, success is mutual.

Don’t forget about Equitable’s user-friendly online application, EZcomplete®, or online transaction platform, Equitable’s EZtransact®. These tools are fast, simple, and could bring clients closer to achieving their goals.

  2. Did you know that you can generate a report detailing all or some of your client’s investment policy
This can be a great tool when meeting to review your client’s account.

This easy to read PDF gives you and your client some, or all, of the pertinent policy information to discuss overall investment goals. The reporting tool also allows you to exclude any “Advisor only information” sections. With active links to fund pages, you can even review risk ratings, calendar and compound returns.

Generate the report just prior to your meeting to ensure the most up-to-date information is available to your client. Located in the top right corner of your client’s policy page on EquiNet®, it also makes a great takeaway or follow up for your client before or after your meeting.
  3. NEW Process for Applications for Term Conversion to Equimax with Excelerator Deposit Option (EDO) Great news! We are now allowing term conversions to Equimax with EDO with no additional underwriting provided the maximum net amount at risk (NAAR) for the new Equimax policy does not exceed the Term coverage amount being converted.

We have created an easy-to-use Excel worksheet (1616 worksheet) to help you confirm that the conversion to Equimax with EDO satisfies the NAAR requirement and will assist you with properly completing the Application for Term Conversion (Form 1616). This worksheet is only for use in situations where the term coverage is to be converted to Equimax with EDO and must be submitted along with the signed illustration and completed Application for Term Conversion. The maximum NAAR can be found on the Underwriting page of the illustration report.

The signed Equimax illustration, application and term conversion worksheet should be sent to: inforcelifemail@equitable.ca.

  7. The Equitable Gives Back Contest – Start spreading the word! Equitable Life of Canada is celebrating our 100th Anniversary in 2020, and we’re busy planning a year of events and activities so we can celebrate this significant milestone with our employees, clients, wholesalers and advisors across Canada.

A big part of who we are as a company is our commitment to help strengthen the communities where we operate by supporting a variety of charitable initiatives that help to improve the quality of life for the people living there. We are proud to launch the Equitable Gives Back Contest. Our goal is to give $10,000 to five registered charities operating in Canada.

All it takes to enter is an original essay (not less than 100 words, not more than 500) describing the way in which a charitable organization could use $10,000 to help further their charitable purpose and improve life for Canadians.

Reach out to your clients, tell them about the contest, and encourage them to visit www.equitable100.ca to see if they are eligible! All entries must be submitted by March 31, 2020.

  8. Retirement Income Options from Equitable Life
If you have clients who are reaching retirement age and have a Retirement Savings Plan or locked-in funds from a previous employer, the government requires them to convert these plans by December 31 of the year they turn 71.

If your client is converting a plan, ask them about other existing assets. This is a great opportunity for your client to consolidate assets from other providers; and for you to discuss a lower management fee through Equitable Life’s Pivotal Select Preferred Pricing Program.

For more information on the options available for clients who are reaching retirement age and the advantages of each, check out the following materials.

  9. Going digital with Pivotal Select Fund Facts
Did you know, with every new policy, your client should receive a copy of Equitable Life’s Pivotal Select™ Fund Facts (Form #1366)? Did you know you can send it electronically?

Over the last year, more and more advisors are opting out of traditional paper. Instead, advisors are going digital. Here are the top three reasons why.

    1. Clients receive the information quickly and conveniently.
    2. Advisors are confident clients are receiving the most current version available.
    3. Advisors can easily adhere to regulations. When providing the client with a link to the electronic Contract and Information Folder (Form #1403), it is easy to also provide a link to the Pivotal Select Fund Facts.

Make it easy and convenient by getting in the habit of going digital.

Does your client prefer a PDF brochure with Fund Facts for all the available funds? Download your copy by logging on to EquiNet®. For more information contact your Regional Investment Sales Manager.
