There is still time for your clients to contribute to their Tax-Free Savings Account
If you have clients that have not contributed to their Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA) this year, great news… there is still time!
You know that an Equitable Life® TFSA is a great way to save. Each year residents of Canada who are at least 18 years of age are eligible to invest up to $6,000* into their TFSA, in addition to any previously unused contribution room. Deposits made into a TFSA are made with after-tax dollars. This means that withdrawals can be made at any time on a tax-free basis.
Interested in increasing an existing Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD) TFSA deposit?
Clients with an existing PAD (or who had one in the previous six months), can go online to make any adjustments to a scheduled deposit to their TFSA. Clients can simply login to Equitable Life’s Client Access®. Client Access is Equitable’s secure online client site that connects clients to tools and policy information.
Consider a one-time deposit or set up a PAD?
To get started with one-time deposit, clients simply log in to their online bank account and select the option to add a new bill/payee and search for Equitable Life Savings Plan. The Equitable Life savings plan policy number will serve as the account number.
Clients that complete their deposits using online banking do not have to worry about mailing a cheque or missing the deadline. Deposits are applied based on the investment direction on file.
If you have clients that would like to set up a PAD, simply complete Form #378. For details on how to submit forms during COVID-19, refer to the NEW APPLICATIONS & TRANSACTION AUTHORIZATION REQUIREMENTS webpage.
If you have any questions, please reach out to your local Regional Investment Sales Manager or Advisor Services at 1.866.884.7427 Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. ET or email savingsretirement@equitable.ca.
*The annual TFSA limit is set by Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and is currently $6,000. Your notice of assessment will tell you if you have unused contribution room from previous years. Contributions over the maximum will be charged a monthly penalty of 1% by CRA.

Calming client fears about inflation and market volatility
Watch any news report or read any social media feed and you will see stories about inflation and market volatility. Inflation is one of the reasons that investing in equities is important - they can help to provide long-term returns that offset the effects of inflation. Help your clients stay on track during periods of market volatility and elevated inflation by following a few key investment strategies.
Time diversification through dollar-cost averaging
Volatile markets can provide opportunities. While your client may be skeptical, remind them about the benefits of dollar-cost averaging. Dollar-cost averaging adds time diversification, meaning your client buys into the market at different points in time. Regular investing can even allow your client to see growth during times of volatility. To learn more, click here.
It is time in the markets, not timing the markets that works long-term
Investing for the long-term allows your client to ride the waves of the investment market. The S&P/TSX Composite Index, for example, has had a compound annual return of approximately 7.8% over the past 25 years.[1] These returns account for the most recent financial crisis and the dot-com bubble. Previous market declines have offered buying opportunities for clients who have funds to invest. To learn more, click here.
Keep your clients invested with segregated funds
Segregated funds, like Equitable Life’s® Pivotal Select™, offer additional benefits beyond those offered by mutual funds and Exchange Traded Funds. Segregated fund guarantees (maturity and death) can protect your clients’ money during periods of market stress. A segregated fund guarantee will provide your client with the better of the guaranteed amount or the market value at the maturity date or date of death. A Pivotal Select segregated fund guarantee can give your client the confidence to stay invested during market uncertainty. For Giuliano, the motivation lies in the meaningful work he does through his advisors and territory, finding the best solutions for their needs.

FHSA tips for new homeowners
Clients have a 30-day window after moving into their new home to withdraw funds from their First Home Savings Account (FHSA) tax-free for expenses. Beyond this period, they have until December 31 of the following year to either transfer any remaining funds to a Registered Retirement Savings Plan or Registered Retirement Income Fund without incurring tax penalties, or withdraw the remaining funds as taxable income, which will be subject to withholding tax.
Do you know clients dreaming of homeownership? We are here to assist! Clients who contribute to an Equitable® FHSA between May 1 and September 30, 2025, will be entered into our Close to Home contest, for a chance to win one of two $8,000 prizes. Whether opening a new Equitable FHSA or making an annual contribution, this is a fantastic opportunity to help clients get closer to owning a home.
Advisors, your efforts matter too! You have a chance to win a $1,000 prize if the client you are assisting, in alignment with their unique homeownership needs, is selected as a winner. At Equitable, we believe that when we grow together, success is mutual.
Don’t forget about Equitable’s user-friendly online application platform, EZcomplete®, or process an online transaction with ease using Equitable’s EZtransact®. These tools are fast, simple, and could bring clients closer to achieving their goals.

Turn ‘time in the market’ into client momentum
If clients are saving for a first home, contribution frequency matters. A simple compounding lesson helps them understand why bi‑weekly FHSA deposits can build balances faster than monthly contributions and gives you a natural bridge to Equitable’s Grow Your Way Home contest this summer.
Reinforce that bi‑weekly vs. monthly is about time in the market and consistent behaviour, not market timing. Here are a few talking points to reinforce with clients:-
“Earlier dollars work longer.”
Bi‑weekly contributions get part of the money invested sooner than a month‑end deposit, giving those dollars more days in the market. -
“More deposits create more compounding moments.”
Each deposit can begin earning right away and those earnings can earn too. More frequent contributions increase opportunities for that “interest on interest” effect. -
“Make it effortless.”
Align contributions to clients’ paydays. Automating bi‑weekly deposits helps build habit, removes friction and keeps clients steadily moving toward their first home savings goals.
As you continue FHSA conversations this summer, remind clients that contributing more frequently can get their money working sooner. And from May 1 to August 31, 2026, opening an Equitable FHSA account, contributing to their Equitable FHSA, or setting up recurring deposits to their Equitable FHSA earns automatic entries in Equitable’s Grow Your Way Home contest.
Use EZcomplete® and EZtransact® to keep contributions seamless and connect with your Director, Investment Sales for additional support, tools and ideas to help you continue these conversations throughout the summer.
